When it comes time to purchase your next set of bed sheets you may be faced with the tough decision of bamboo or Egyptian cotton. This is a hard choice when it comes right down to it. Both have some wonderful qualities to them but it is extremely personal as to which one you will pick. Bamboo is much less well known then Egyptian cotton.

If you are looking at a set of sheets and they have an extremely high thread count, you are probably looking at Egyptian cotton. Egyptian cotton sheets can have a very long life if taken care of. The luxurious feel comes from the high thread count. The more Egyptian cotton is used and washed the softer the fabric becomes. Nothing beat crawling into a bed that is covered with a soft material. You won’t feel as if you are baking at night when you use cotton sheets.  This is one of the advantages to cotton. Egyptian cotton sheets, though less expensive, aren’t lacking in quality.

Bamboo is a sustainable resource and uses no pesticides to grow therefore pretty environmentally friendly as far as that part of production. If you are “going green” bamboo sheets may be just what you are looking for. When compaired to Egyptian cotton, bamboo sheets have a lower thread count.  Ironically, bamboo is just as soft (if not softer) then Egyptian cotton. Hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties are also two factors that bamboo has that Egyptian cotton doesn’t. Bamboo is a bit more insulating then cotton so it has the ability to keep you warm but can breathe as to not keep you too warm.

Either of these fabrics will feel great to you. Bamboo is more expensive then Egyptian cotton but bamboo is also a renewable resource. Ultimately you will need to decide what fits your needs the most. The quality of the bamboo may shock you though if you can afford the extra cost.
